Work as a Doctor in Australia
GP Locum positions are available for doctors with at least 3 years post-Graduate experience. Applicants trained at approved Universities in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and South Africa are eligible. Doctors from other countries who have passed the Australian AMC exam or who have had previous registration in Queensland, Australia may also be eligible.

Contact your nearest Australian Consulate. We complete "Form 55; The Application for a Temporary Visa Residence and require payment of $A210 (subject to change) for submission to the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs.

Once approved, we receive a "Nomination Approval Letter" and we fax that to you

You then submit this with your Visa Application for Sub Class 422 to the Consulate. Any dependents will be catered for in the application. The consular staff then institute the usual processing protocols.

Complete the Medical Board of Queensland "Application for Registration as a Medical Practitioner in Queensland". They require specific documents including photocopy of Passport and Visa Status, Certificate of Good-Standing, certified copy of your Degree, Photos and a fee of $A210 (subject to change). Your registration cannot be processed till you arrive in Australia but obviously, all documentation should be sent to the Board as early as possible to confirm that approval would be forthcoming.
After your arrival and approval by the Medical Board you then apply for a Provider Number to work under Australia's Medicare Health System. You are issued with a Provider and Prescriber Number and you are able to commence work.
If you choose to accept a position with us, you will be required to work a minimum 2 nights and part of the days on weekends and Public Holidays. Remuneration for 2 nights is equivalent to working as a Full-time PHO in the Queensland Public Hospital System. You may choose to either work extra After Hours Shifts or if these are covered, GP locums as you desire.
